COVID-19 D League FAQs
Why not just cancel the season?
There are several reasons not to cancel:
- We believe that when this situation ends our kids (and parents) will need to return to some form of normalcy to help in the healing process as a community..
- Keeping the season will help our local small businesses, sports clubs and officials. End of year parties (at local establishments), part-time officials, and youth sports organizations (who often operate on a thread) are a critical part of a strong community. Now is the time to stand together and make sure we stay strong.
- Cancelling puts our non-profit at risk of not being able to offer all of the services we have had in the past.
Can I get a refund?
- The D League does not offer refunds, but applies unused portions of registration fees to future D League seasons. There are a couple specific reasons to highlight during this time.
- We have already spent a portion of your registration fees on non-recoverable expenses including: insurance, training, sports equipment, scheduling etc.
- WE WILL HAVE A SEASON, it will just start a little later than previously scheduled.
Player Code Of Conduct
CONDUCT OF A KODC D LEAGUER
1. Have Fun!!!
Remember that basketball is only a game that people made up to have a good time. A loss is not the end of the world -- your parents and friends are not going to stop loving you if you lose.
2. Work Hard!!!
Approach the game of basketball with enthusiasm and dedication. This effort must be put into practices as well as games. Do not let mistakes get you down if you know that you are working hard to improve. Put in the extra hours of practice at home.
3. Demonstrate Class.
Do not lose your cool because of a call by a referee, an aggressive foul by an opponent, or an uncomplimentary comment by a player. Concentrate on doing your job and not on how others do theirs. Let your coach handle the referees. Never resort to profanity to show your frustration.
4. Be Loyal.
Remember that basketball is a team game. Don’t criticize your teammates on or off the court. If you have a problem with your coach or another player, let your parent handle it.
5. Respect Your Coach.
Your coach’s job is to tell you when you do well and when you are doing something wrong. Accept his/her advice and work harder to improve. It is rude to talk or bounce the ball when your coach is talking. Your coach may yell during the game, but it is only because the gym is noisy and it is hard to hear. Understand that your coach has a very difficult job and has a lot to think about during the game.
6. Pledge to not use alcohol, drugs, or tobacco.
7. Accept victory or defeat appropriately. Be humble winners and gracious losers.
8. Be a STUDENT-Athlete.
Commit yourself to academic excellence. Take the proper measures to assure that you have enough time to study and apply yourself to your school work. If you are having trouble in a subject or subjects, talk to your teachers early. Let your parents know, as well as us what you are having trouble with also, so that we can come to a resolution together.
Remember, being a student-athlete means learning time management. Use your time appropriately so you get your work done off the court, so you can be on the court. If your grades fall below the standard set by KODC D League Basketball, then you may be placed on team probation, in order to provide more time to improve grades. Grades come first!
Parent/Guardian Code of Conduct
PARENT CODE OF ETHICS
“Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.” Proverbs 22:6
1. Remember that basketball is only a game.
Help keep the game enjoyable. Be humble winners and gracious losers. Win without ego and lose without excuses
2. Treat all players, coaches, and officials with courtesy and respect.
Respect the integrity and judgment of the game referees. Enthusiastic and wholesome cheering is encouraged. SUSPENSION from the KODC D League may result for violating this Code.
3. Do not give advice and lectures immediately after the game on the drive home.
4. Do not shout instructions or coach your child, or other children during the game.
5. Emphasize good sportsmanship and good academics.
6. Try not to embarrass your child by disciplining him/her in front of his/her teammates.
7. Emphasize that use of alcohol, drugs, or tobacco will not be tolerated.
8. Respect differing viewpoints.
Have discussions with the coach in private.
9. Support the KODC D League program at the gym and at home.
Your child’s attitude many times will be an exact reflection of your own.
10. Understand you get in what you put out.
Each child develops at their own pace, but practicing on your time apart from the D League helps speed up the process, and reinforces what they are learning. Making an effort & commitment with your child to spend even just 5-10 minutes a day, working on their own to get better and hone in on their skills goes a long way in the development process.
PARENT RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Observe and obey all rules and regulations of the different gyms. Please do not smoke around the players
2. Have your child at practices and games on time
3. Sit down and review the “Conduct of a KODC D Leaguer” with your child.
4. Encourage your child to practicing on his/her own.
